As federal law increasingly becomes more employer-friendly, the legal obligations in many “progressive” states are becoming more vexing, contradictory and challenging. This presentation will address some of the more critical areas where the feds and many states are heading in opposite directions (e.g. EEO classification coverage, overtime exemptions, paid sick days, paid FML, marijuana use, ban the box and ban the salary inquiry) and will serve as a platform for discussing how HR can meet the shifting and sometimes contradictory legal obligations.
The immigration debate remains in the headlines. How confident are you that you understand the potential impacts that DACA, TPS, merit-based immigration and chain migration might have on your workforce? What are the key underlying principles for reaching consensus? This presentation will equip you with a clear understanding of the three reasons people disagree, three methods for establishing a consensus-focused process, and five techniques for getting to yes when disagreements occur.

Decision-making and problem-solving are not only two of the most important things done together at work, but they are also two of the most difficult things done together. Much of the difficulty lies in the need to disagree on the way to making decisions and solving problems. Some of us are conflict avoidant. Sometimes it is just much easier, simpler, and faster if we pretend we agree with each other. By being more intentional about how we make decisions and solve problems together, specifically regarding disagreement, we can drive better shared outcomes and a more inclusive employee experience for the folks involved.

The post-Millennial workforce is here. The oldest of this new generation are now graduating high school, and employers, especially those facing a shortage of skilled labor, are preparing for this next influx of talent. Demographers use a variety of names to refer to this generation – Gen Z, Plurals, iGens – but none of these labels has yet to stick. And while it is clear that the members of this generation will be the most technologically savvy in history, most of their other values, characteristics and behaviors are misunderstood. This presentation will provide critical insight into the post-Millennial generation and highlight key strategies you must adopt to attract and engage them as future employees.
While men and women alike can be harassers, the reality is that men with power are far more likely than women to harass women (or men). What we have seen in Hollywood is a symptom of a societal problem. No industry is immune. While we have made progress in this area, we still have a long way to go. In particular, men with power must do more. It is not enough to refrain from unacceptable conduct and conduct is unacceptable long before it reaches assault or worse. Men with power must respond to harassing behavior that they see, hear or have reason to believe may exist. even if no complaint has been made. And they must do so without engaging in paternalism or re-victimization. What should men do (and not do)? How can women encourage more men to be forceful allies? Join this presentation for practical suggestions and recommendations.

Answers to these questions and more will be detailed during this presentation focused on the Brand of YOU!
You understand the importance of diversity, and recognize that encouraging a workplace that embraces diversity of thought paves the way for better problem-solving, more effective goal achievement, and ultimately delivers a strategic advantage. But if we expand on our traditional notion of diversity, there are other elements that can also contribute to an inclusive workplace that encourages our employees to do their best work and contribute to organizational goals. However, some of our common (albeit perhaps unintentional) behaviors, practices, and cultural norms often perpetuate bias and discourage an inclusive environment. This presentation will define these overlooked elements of inclusive workplaces, identify organizational behavior and practices that discourage them, and discuss some simple steps you can take to overcome these obstacles and encourage more inclusive workplaces.
Sole HR practitioners have to be everything to everyone. This presentation will share ideas to help you move beyond the day to day administration of HR to acting as a true partner to business leaders and making a greater impact on the business as a whole.
The nature of work has drastically evolved. Just decades ago, workers sought out pensions and stability, but now the workforce is more concerned with meaningful work and flexibility. There has clearly been a shift in the attitude toward work. The same can be said of commitment to employees. Today, successful recruiting and HR leaders understand the need to create bold, new relationships with candidates that last throughout the employee life cycle. This session presentation will explore the changing work expectations and how you can impact employee hiring and retention in this new paradigm.
